Captivating NFT and generative art from some of the world’s leading artists are set to illuminate Art Basel Hong Kong 2022 from the 27th to 29th of May as part of a 250m² Tezos NFT Exhibition entitled ‘NFTs + The Ever-Evolving World of Art.’
Here’s a glimpse into what visitors to the exhibition can expect.
At a time when NFT art is being pioneered, the Tezos exhibition gives visitors to Art Basel Hong Kong an unmatched opportunity to discover some of the most talented generative artists in the field.
Works from more than 20 NFT artists from Asia Pacific and around the world will be on display. These creators are working at the cutting-edge of arts, and many have produced some of the most popular collections on NFT art platforms powered by the Tezos blockchain.
Many have a technical background, while others are established artists seeking new frontiers in the digital realm. Each artist brings unique styles, approaches, and inspirations to their art—whether it’s generative, digital, or inspired by traditional techniques such as painting and drawing.
For instance, French artist and programmer Michael Zancan is a former oil painter who’s now making a name for himself through his plotter art NFTs, which are code-directed images that can be ‘drawn’ on real paper using a pen plotter machine. On the other hand, well-known Filipino painter Charles Bjorn Zarraga Calleja has minted NFTs of GIFs created using hand-painted images for each frame of the animation.
‘NFTs + The Ever-Evolving World of Art’ will showcase especially innovative and stimulating artworks—representing a stellar NFT art collection.
Styles on display vary but include abstract, impressionist, and pop art. Diverse themes are covered too, although many works explore the tension between humans, nature and technology, and the very nature of reality and time itself. In particular, the generative artworks included in the exhibition demonstrate originality and signify the beauty of ephemerality and change.
These examples of NFT art are visually stunning. They also point to the limitlessness of computer-aided creativity: whether through algorithmic randomness, or how the NFT format redefines the scope and observance of traditional mediums.
Visitors to the exhibit will be able to experience how to mint an NFT and receive a one-of-a-kind artwork through a collaboration with fxhash—a leading NFT marketplace powered by the Tezos blockchain. As one of the most secure and eco-friendly blockchains, the Tezos ecosystem supports a rapidly expanding community of artists and NFT collectors via platforms such as fxhash.
In a first-of-its-kind gallery experience, visitors to the ‘NFTs + The Ever-Evolving World of Art’ exhibit will be able to interact with generative artworks on display, seamlessly create an NFT wallet, scan a QR code to trigger the minting process, and acquire a unique version of the NFT artwork for free.
Designed as a generative living gallery, a combined 7,000 distinctive editions of NFTs from seven world-renowned creative coders will be made available to enable audiences to start, or build on, their own NFT digital art collections. As each artwork is live-minted and gifted to a visitor, the gallery updates in real-time to replenish generative artworks with new variations based on the artists’ underlying algorithms.
Not only will visitors gain a better understanding of how art is converted into collectible crypto assets, they will also have a public record—encoded using the Tezos blockchain’s secure and environmentally sustainable technology—verifying them as the owner of a piece of digital artwork generated at one of the world’s most prestigious art events.
